(1) At the comm<strong>and</strong> FORM FOR SHELTER TENTS TO THE LEFT, the<br />

second in comm<strong>and</strong> moves to a position on the right of the right <strong>Marine</strong> of<br />

the front rank. The messengers take positions on left <strong>Marine</strong> of the rear<br />

rank. The squad leader of the first squad comm<strong>and</strong>s STAND FAST <strong>and</strong> the<br />

squad leaders of the other squads give the supplementary comm<strong>and</strong> BY THE<br />

LEFT FLANK.<br />

(2) At the comm<strong>and</strong> MARCH, all squads except the first face to<br />

the left in marching <strong>and</strong> step off. Squad leaders move their squads into<br />

line abreast of the squad(s) are ready on line by giving the comm<strong>and</strong>s BY<br />

THE RIGHT FLANK, MARCH <strong>and</strong> SQUAD, HALT.<br />

(3) At the comm<strong>and</strong>s TAKE INTERVAL TO THE LEFT, MARCH; COUNT<br />

OFF, given by the platoon comm<strong>and</strong>er, the entire rank takes interval <strong>and</strong><br />

counts off.<br />

e. When directed by the platoon comm<strong>and</strong>er, the odd-numbered<br />

<strong>Marine</strong>s draw their bayonets <strong>and</strong> thrust them into the ground alongside the<br />

outside of the left heel near the instep. The bayonet indicates the<br />

position of the front tent pole. <strong>Marine</strong>s not equipped with bayonets mark<br />

the place with the left heel. Odd <strong>and</strong> even-numbered <strong>Marine</strong>s (numbers 1<br />

<strong>and</strong> 2, numbers 3 <strong>and</strong> 4, etc.) pitch tents together.<br />

f. To assemble, the comm<strong>and</strong>s are ASSEMBLE TO THE RIGHT, MARCH;<br />

RIGHT, FACE; COLUMN OF TWOS (THREES, FOURS) TO THE RIGHT, MARCH. The<br />

second in comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> messengers resume their normal posts.<br />

8-18. TO FORM COLUMN OF TWOS AND SINGLE FILE AND REFORM<br />

a. The platoon may be marched in column of twos <strong>and</strong> reform into<br />

column by the procedures given below. The change of column is always made<br />

from the halt.<br />

(1) Being in column of threes, to form column of twos, the<br />

platoon comm<strong>and</strong>er comm<strong>and</strong>s COLUMN OF TWOS FROM THE RIGHT (LEFT), MARCH.<br />

On the preparatory comm<strong>and</strong>, the squad leaders give the following<br />

supplementary comm<strong>and</strong>s: the two right (left) squad leaders comm<strong>and</strong>,<br />

FORWARD; the remaining squad leader comm<strong>and</strong>s, COLUMN OF TWOS TO THE LEFT<br />

(RIGHT). On the platoon comm<strong>and</strong>er’s comm<strong>and</strong> of execution, MARCH, the two<br />

right (left) squads march forward; the remaining squad Terms column of<br />

twos to the left (right) as prescribed in squad <strong>drill</strong> (see paragraph 7-<br />

13) then, on comm<strong>and</strong>s of its squad leader, executes column half right<br />

(left) <strong>and</strong> column half left (right) so as to follow the two leading squads<br />

at normal distance in column (see fig. 8-5).<br />

(2) Being in columns of twos, to reform into column of<br />

threes, the platoon comm<strong>and</strong>er comm<strong>and</strong>s COLUMN OF THREES TO THE LEFT<br />

(RIGHT), MARCH. At the preparatory comm<strong>and</strong>, squad leaders give the<br />

following supplementary comm<strong>and</strong>s: the two leading squad leaders comm<strong>and</strong>,<br />

STAND FAST; <strong>and</strong> the remaining squad leader comm<strong>and</strong>s, Column OF FILES FROM<br />

THE RIGHT (LEFT). On the platoon comm<strong>and</strong>er’s comm<strong>and</strong> of execution, MARCH,<br />

the two leading squads st<strong>and</strong> fast; the rear squad forms single file from<br />

the right (left) as in squad <strong>drill</strong> (see paragraph 7-14), then on comm<strong>and</strong><br />

of its squad leader, moves to its normal place beside the leading squads<br />

by executing a column half left (right) then column half right (left). It<br />

is halted by the squad leader when its leading "4"s is on line with the<br />

leading rank of the platoon (see fig. 8-9)<br />

b. The platoon, being at a halt, may be marched in single file<br />

then reform into column of threes in the same manner is forming into<br />

column of twos <strong>and</strong> reforming into column of threes by giving the following<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

(1) Being in column of threes, to form column of files, the<br />

platoon comm<strong>and</strong>er comm<strong>and</strong>s COLUMN OF FILES FROM THE RIGHT (LEFT), MARCH.<br />

On the preparatory comm<strong>and</strong>, squad leaders give the following Supplementary<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>s: right (left) squad leader, FORWARD; remaining squad leaders,<br />

STAND FAST. On the platoon comm<strong>and</strong>er’s comm<strong>and</strong> of execution, MARCH, the<br />

right (left) squad marches forward; the remaining squads st<strong>and</strong> fast, then<br />

each in succession, on comm<strong>and</strong> of its squad leader, executes a column half<br />

right (left), then column half left (right),<br />
