eviewing officer, the comm<strong>and</strong>er of the troops halts the group by the<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> DETACHMENT HALT (see fig. l4-l). The b<strong>and</strong> stops playing as the<br />

detachment halts. The troop comm<strong>and</strong>er then salutes the reviewing officer<br />

<strong>and</strong> reports, "Sirs the persons (<strong>and</strong>/or colors) to be decorated/retired are<br />

present." The reviewing officer returns the salute <strong>and</strong> orders, "Present<br />

the comm<strong>and</strong>, Sir." The comm<strong>and</strong>er of troops returns to his post by the<br />

most direct route around the right flank of the persons <strong>and</strong> colors to be<br />

decorated. On reaching his post, he comm<strong>and</strong>s PRESENT, ARMS, faces about<br />

<strong>and</strong> orders his staff to PRESENT, ARMS. The b<strong>and</strong> plays the "National<br />

Anthem." If only a field music is present, he sounds "To the Colors." On<br />

completion of the music, the comm<strong>and</strong>er of troops brings the comm<strong>and</strong> to<br />

order arms. The persons to be decorated <strong>and</strong>/or retirees also salute<br />

with the comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

14-4. PRESENTATION OF AWARDS.<br />

a. A designated staff officer reads the orders <strong>and</strong> citations of the<br />

awards to be presented. In <strong>ceremonies</strong> involving many awards, the<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>er may direct that such portions of orders <strong>and</strong> citations<br />

appropriate to read. After a reading of the first citation, the reviewing<br />

officer, accompanied by designated necessary staff personnel, advances to<br />

the first color/person to be decorated. He attaches the appropriate<br />

streamers/decorations <strong>and</strong> then moves to the next color or person to<br />

decorated <strong>and</strong> that citation is read. For awards to individuals, the<br />

reviewing officer attaches the appropriate decoration to the uniform over<br />

the left breast pocket <strong>and</strong> shakes h<strong>and</strong>s with the person decorated. He<br />

will also shake h<strong>and</strong>s with each retiree. Immediately after shaking h<strong>and</strong>s,<br />

the person decorated or retiree salutes the reviewing officer. He returns<br />

the salute before proceeding onto the next person.<br />

b. After shaking h<strong>and</strong>s with the last person, the reviewing officer<br />

resumes his post. The persons decorated/retirees, at the comm<strong>and</strong> of the<br />

senior, form a line at normal interval on the left of the local comm<strong>and</strong>er,<br />

or as otherwise directed. The colors return to the their posts by the<br />

most direct route. When the colors have taken their posts, the reviewing<br />

officer directs the comm<strong>and</strong>er of troops to march the comm<strong>and</strong> in review.<br />

c. The march in review is conducted in accordance with paragraph 13-<br />
