18-3. RENDERING HONORS TO PERSONAGES DEPARTING AFTER OFFICIAL VISITS<br />

Honors are rendered upon the departure or a personage entitled<br />

to honors in the same manner in which they were rendered upon arrival with<br />

the following exceptions:<br />

a. Generally, if the personage inspected the honor guard upon his<br />

arrival, the host advises him that another inspection on departure is not<br />

expected.<br />

b. The honor guard will not pass in review.<br />

c. Honors do not commence until the personage has completed his<br />

personal farewells.<br />

d. If a gun salute is to be fired, it will begin just prior to the<br />

time the personage leaves the area where honors are rendered.<br />

e. If a personal or foreign national flag has been flown during the<br />

visit, it will be hauled down upon the firing of the last gun.<br />

18-4. HONORS TO THE NATIONAL FLAG<br />

a. By Individuals.<br />

(1) During morning colors <strong>and</strong> evening colors, salutes are rendered<br />

by individuals in accordance with U.S. Navy Regulations.<br />

(2) When passed by or passing the national color (st<strong>and</strong>ard)<br />

uncased, all persons in the naval service in uniform <strong>and</strong><br />

covered shall salute in accordance with paragraph 2-1e(2).<br />

(3) Small flags carried by individuals <strong>and</strong> flags flying from<br />

flagstaffs (except during morning colors <strong>and</strong> evening colors)<br />

are now saluted.<br />

(4) A folded flag being carried to morning colors or being<br />

returned from evening colors by a color detail will be<br />

considered as cased.<br />

b. By Persons in Formation.<br />

(1) During morning colors <strong>and</strong> evening colors, salutes are rendered<br />

by persons in formation in accordance with U.S. Navy<br />

Regulations.<br />

(2) When passed by or passing the national color (st<strong>and</strong>ard)<br />

uncased, persons in formation are brought to attention or<br />

order arms if halted, or attention if marching. The formation<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>er shall render the salute for his unit, facing the<br />

color if the formation is halted. Persons in formation<br />

participating in a ceremony shall, on comm<strong>and</strong>, follow the<br />

procedure prescribed for the ceremony.<br />

(3) Small flags carried by individuals <strong>and</strong> flags flying from<br />

flagstaffs (except during morning colors <strong>and</strong> evening colors)<br />

are not saluted.<br />

(4) A folded flag being carried to morning colors or being<br />

returned from evening colors by a color detail will be<br />

considered as cased.<br />
