the ceremonial detachments are drawn.<br />

(2) The relative ranks of the comm<strong>and</strong>ers of the ceremonial<br />

detachments.<br />

(3) The alphabetical order in the English Language of the names<br />

of the nations concerned.<br />

e. After troops are formed, subordinate comm<strong>and</strong>ers <strong>and</strong> their staffs<br />

face front. The comm<strong>and</strong>er of troops <strong>and</strong> his/her staff face the comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

The leader of troops <strong>and</strong> his/her staff face the front to present the<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> to the reviewing officer.<br />

12-2. STAFF SALUTES<br />

Members of the staff of the comm<strong>and</strong>er of troops salute, with the<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>er, on his/her separate comm<strong>and</strong> to the staff, at the following times:<br />

a. When passing in review.<br />

b. When rendering honors.<br />

c. When passing or being passed by the National Color.<br />

d. while the "National Anthem", "To the Colors", or "Hail to the<br />

Chief" is played. Salutes are also rendered when "retreat" is played<br />

during reviews <strong>and</strong> all <strong>ceremonies</strong>, except at even parade. At evening<br />

parade, "treat" is played immediately after "Sound off" while the troops<br />

are at parade rest, <strong>and</strong> is therefore not saluted. In this case, after<br />

"Retreat", troops are brought to attention <strong>and</strong> salutes are rendered while<br />

the "National Anthem" is played to lower the national design.<br />

e. At any other time the troops are brought to present arms.<br />

12-3. PLACE OF FORMATION<br />

a. At "Assembly," companies are formed <strong>and</strong> inspected by their<br />

company comm<strong>and</strong>ers at their designated locations.<br />

b. At "Adjutant’s Call," for a ceremony involving a single<br />

battalion, the battalion forms on its designated location <strong>and</strong> conduct the<br />

ceremony. For a regimental ceremony, at the first "Adjutant’s Call," each<br />

battalion forms at its designated location <strong>and</strong> the battalion is reported<br />

to its comm<strong>and</strong>er. At the second sounding of "Adjutant’s Call," the<br />

regiment is formed <strong>and</strong> the ceremony conducted.<br />

c. For <strong>ceremonies</strong> conducted by organizations larger than a<br />

regiment, sixth as a division, at the second "Adjutant’s Call," each<br />

regiment is formed <strong>and</strong> is reported to its comm<strong>and</strong>er. At the third<br />

"Adjutant’s Call," the comm<strong>and</strong> is formed <strong>and</strong> the ceremony is conducted.<br />

l2-4. ORGANIZATION AND STRINGENT OF UNIT<br />

a. For formations, reviews, <strong>and</strong> parades when maximum troop<br />

partition is desired, units are organized, in as much as practicable,<br />

according to their actual tables of organization. Size of units will vary<br />

according to actual strengths as will the number of companies in each<br />

battalion <strong>and</strong> platoons in each company. Similarly, the number of ranks in<br />

each platoon will vary according to the number of squads. For units not<br />

organized by table of organization into sounds, they should be formed so<br />

that platoons are in three ranks in line <strong>and</strong> three files in column.<br />

b. When the appearance of troops in formation is of primary<br />

concern, the organization <strong>and</strong> strength of participating units should be<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ardized. Each platoon should be organized so as to form in three<br />

ranks in lime <strong>and</strong> three files in column. The strength of each platoon<br />

should be the same so that, when in line, all platoons the same frontage.<br />

12-5. COMMANDS, DRILL MOVEMENTS, AND UNIT FORMATIONS<br />

<strong>drill</strong><br />

a. During <strong>ceremonies</strong>, unit comm<strong>and</strong>ers give comm<strong>and</strong>, units execute<br />
