(3) Marching in quick time:<br />

(a) On the Comm<strong>and</strong> MARCH, take one more 30-inch step.<br />

(b) Begin the 15-inch steps as explained above (Para 2-2g (2)).<br />

(4) To resume quick time from half step, the comm<strong>and</strong> is FORWARD,<br />

MARCH. It may be given as either foot strikes the deck.<br />

h. Side Step.<br />

(a) On MARCH, take one more half step.<br />

(b) Step off at quick time.<br />

(1) The comm<strong>and</strong> RIGHT (LEFT) STEP, MARCH is given only when you are at<br />

a halt.<br />

(2) At the comm<strong>and</strong> MARCH, move your right foot 12 inches to the right,<br />

then place your left foot beside your right. Repeat this movement<br />

at the rate of 120 steps a minute. Keep your legs straight, but<br />

not stiff. Hold your arms at attention.<br />

i. Back Step.<br />

(1) The comm<strong>and</strong> BACKWARD, MARCH is given only when you are at a halt.<br />

(2) At the comm<strong>and</strong> MARCH, step off to the rear with your left foot <strong>and</strong><br />

take 15-inch steps at a rate of 120 steps a minute. Swing your<br />

arms naturally.<br />

j. To Face in Marching.<br />

(1) This is an important part of the following movements: column<br />

right (left), by the right (left) flank, close, take interval, <strong>and</strong><br />

extend. For instructional purposes, the comm<strong>and</strong> is BY THE RIGHT<br />

(LEFT) FLANK, MARCH.<br />

(2) From a halt:<br />

(a) On MARCH, turn to the right (left) on the ball of the right<br />

foot.<br />

(b) Step off with your left foot in the new direction with a 30inch<br />

step.<br />

(3) While marching, the comm<strong>and</strong> of execution is given as the foot of<br />

the desired direction of movement hits the deck.<br />

(a) On MARCH, without losing cadence, take one more step.<br />

(b) Pivot to the right (left) <strong>and</strong> step off in the new direction.<br />

If comm<strong>and</strong>ed <strong>and</strong> executed properly, the pivot will be on the<br />

foot away from the desired direction of movement, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

first step in the new direction will be with the other foot.<br />

The pivot <strong>and</strong> step are done together in one count.<br />

k. To About Face While Marching.<br />

(1) The comm<strong>and</strong> is TO THE REAR, MARCH. It is given when the right<br />

foot strikes the deck. It may be comm<strong>and</strong>ed while marching at<br />

either quick time or double time.<br />
