Section II. MANUAL OF ARMS MOVEMENTS WHILE AT SLING ARMS<br />

3-17. GENERAL<br />

a. This section contains the procedures for executing <strong>manual</strong> of arms<br />

movements while at sling arms.<br />

b. All individual or unit <strong>drill</strong> movements may be executed while at<br />

sling arms, except stack arms <strong>and</strong> unfix <strong>and</strong> fix bayonets.<br />

c. Remain at sling arms during all rest movements.<br />

d. Stack arms <strong>and</strong> fix <strong>and</strong> unfix bayonets (slings loose) are<br />

executed from unsling arms (order arms) only.<br />

e. When in formation at sling arms, execute the h<strong>and</strong> salute on the<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> PRESENT, ARMS.<br />

3-18. SLING ARMS<br />

a. From Order Arms.<br />

(1) From the order arms position (parade sling-slings tight), the<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> for sling arms is SLING, ARMS.<br />

(2) This is not a precision movement; therefore, there are no<br />

counts. On the comm<strong>and</strong> of execution, slide the right h<strong>and</strong> up<br />

<strong>and</strong> grasp the barrel near the flash suppressor. Without loss<br />

of motion, raise the rifle to a vertical position where the<br />

butt is in front of the right hip with the muzzle pointing up<br />

<strong>and</strong> the pistol grip to the left. At the same time, grasp the<br />

rifle at the h<strong>and</strong>guard just above the slipring with the left<br />

h<strong>and</strong>. The sling is included in the grasp. The fingers are<br />

joined. Place the butt on the right hip. If the rifle belt<br />

is worn, the butt will rest just above the belt. Release the<br />

grasp of the right h<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> with the left h<strong>and</strong> move the rifle<br />

so that it will rest on the inside of the right elbow <strong>and</strong><br />

cradle it there (see fig. 3-15). The muzzle points slightly<br />

to the right. Release the grasp of the left h<strong>and</strong> from the<br />

h<strong>and</strong>guard <strong>and</strong> with both h<strong>and</strong>s loosen the sling. After the<br />
