(2) Noncommissioned officers raise the right h<strong>and</strong> to a position 6<br />

inches in front of the neck. At the same time, grasp the<br />

scabbard with the left h<strong>and</strong> below the throat. Keep the thumb<br />

on the left side of the grip, wrist straight, <strong>and</strong> elbow<br />

against the body. Tilt the sword forward 30-deqrees. Then<br />

lower the sword point to a position just above the opening of<br />

the scabbard. Look down at the opening. Guide the point into<br />

the opening with the left thumb <strong>and</strong> forefinger until the right<br />

h<strong>and</strong> is 10 inches from the scabbard. Then raise the head back<br />

to attention. The right forearm should now be straight <strong>and</strong><br />

parallel across the body. The left h<strong>and</strong> holds the scabbard<br />

against the side (see fig. 5-1b).<br />
