b. Officers <strong>and</strong> noncommissioned officers draw <strong>and</strong> return sword,<br />
without comm<strong>and</strong>, when the comm<strong>and</strong>er of their unit does. Unless members of<br />
the comm<strong>and</strong>er’s staff, they execute all other movements of the sword<br />
<strong>manual</strong> on the comm<strong>and</strong>er’s comm<strong>and</strong> to the unit. Staff members execute all<br />
other movements on the comm<strong>and</strong>er’s separate comm<strong>and</strong> to his staff. The<br />
sword will be drawn with armed troops, except when at ease, rest, route<br />
step, at ease march, or when inspecting troops. A unit comm<strong>and</strong>er, after<br />
being inspected, will return sword prior to accompanying the inspecting<br />
party, except during the inspection of an honor guard.<br />
c. Carry sword is assumed when:<br />
(1) Giving comm<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
(2) Changing position in formation at quick time.<br />
(3) Addressing or being addressed by a senior.<br />
(4) The preparatory comm<strong>and</strong> for quick time has been given.<br />
(5) while marching at quick time<br />
(6) Any <strong>manual</strong> of arms movement has been ordered except parade<br />
rest, at ease, rest, present arms, or eyes right (left). When<br />
in formation with personnel to your front at normal distance<br />
or less (organization staffs excluded), remain at carry sword<br />
except during rest or at ease.<br />
