and the Moken may have lost their economic and strategic importance to<br />

the dominant ethnic land communities and their rulers, but they continue to<br />

reinforce difference as a strategy for survival of their chosen way of life. Their<br />

situation bears a strong resemblance to that of a closely related group, the<br />
