1.3-1.5 times longer than wide; striae deep, with moderately coarse<br />
punctures; interstriae about twice as wide as striae, flat, slightly<br />
narrowed toward base, each interstria with a row <strong>of</strong> randomly placed<br />
minute punctures, these bearing scales similar to those on pronotum.<br />
Femora <strong>of</strong> male forelegs strongly swollen; polished area with nearly<br />
straight limiting ridge; area extending about 0.4 length <strong>of</strong> femur,<br />
striated; straie distinct, coarse, dense, uniform on ventral surface <strong>of</strong>area<br />
(Fig. 52); tibiae <strong>of</strong> forelegs strongly widened toward apex; tibiae <strong>of</strong><br />
middle and hind legs mucronate.<br />
Distribution. New Brunswick to British Columbia, south<br />
through the eastern and northern United States to the District <strong>of</strong><br />
Columbia, Wisconsin, Idaho, and Washington. Alberta: 3 km south <strong>of</strong><br />
Huxley (Ghost Pine Creek), and 7 km south <strong>of</strong> Riviere Qui Barre. British<br />
Columbia: Oliver. Manitoba: Husavick, Magnus, Stonewall, and<br />
Treesbank. New Brunswick: Fredericton. Ontario: Black Sturgeon<br />
Lake, Brant, Brittania, 5 km south <strong>of</strong> Galt, Marmora, and Trenton.<br />
Quebec: Kazabazua and Knowlton. Saskatchewan: Waldeck.<br />
Comments. This is another species in the subgenus Fallapion.In<br />
addition to the characters given in the key, adults <strong>of</strong> this species may be<br />
distinguished by characters <strong>of</strong> the polished area <strong>of</strong> the front femur,<br />
which bears deep, coarse, well-defrned striations and has a prominent<br />
limiting ridge. Nothing is recorded on the life history or habits <strong>of</strong> this<br />
species. Specimens fromAlberta are labeled "ex. CarexlEleocharis," and<br />
were likely collected in sweeps <strong>of</strong> marshs dominated by these plants.<br />
Kissinger (1968) designated the lectotype <strong>of</strong> this species.<br />
