Description. Length 2.8-5.1 mm. Integument black to dark<br />

reddish brown; legs, antennae, and sometimes rostrum lighter reddish<br />

brown. Pubescence light brown to yellowish, with coppery reflection.<br />

Head moderately convex between eyes. Frons 1.2-1.3 times wider than<br />

rostrum at apex; surface shining, with abundant, oval punctures, these<br />

forming vague longitudinal furrows; each puncture bearing 1 erect,<br />

moderately longyellowish seta. Rostrum 2.3-2.4 times longer than wide<br />

at apex, moderately curved; sides broadly curved: surface smooth, with<br />

numerous shallow, elongate punctures and 3 abbreviated carinae.<br />

Pronotum less than 1.1 times wider than long, widest at middle; sides<br />

moderately arcuate; disc broadly impressed; surface shining, densely,<br />

deeply punctured, setaceous; setae abundant, semierect, moderately<br />

long, light brown or yellowish. Elytra 1.8 times longer than wide;<br />

surface pubescent, with dense, random, deep punctures; setae<br />

abundant, semierect or nearly recumbent, moderately long. Abdominal<br />

sternites 3 and 4 <strong>of</strong> female each with 1 elongate tuft <strong>of</strong> white or yellowish<br />

white setae; abdominal sternites <strong>of</strong> male unmodified.<br />

Distribution. British Columbia (?) to Quebec; eastern United<br />

States south to Georgia and west to Wisconsin and Kansas. British<br />

Columbia: Terrace (probably erroneous). Manitoba: Gillam. Ontario:<br />

Carleton County, Constance Bay, Marmora, Mattagami River, Nipigon,<br />

Normandale, Ottawa, Petawawa, Prince Edward County, Ridgeway,<br />

SmokyFalls, Toronto, andWilno. Quebec: Aylmer, Fort Coulonge, Great<br />

Whale River, Kirks Ferry, Lake Opasatika, Mistassini Lake, Mont<br />

Fenowillet, Sainte-Rose, and Wright.<br />

Comments. Adults <strong>of</strong> this species are readily distinguished from<br />

other members <strong>of</strong> the genus by the flattened to weakly impressed dorsal<br />

surface <strong>of</strong>the pronotum and by the type <strong>of</strong>vestiture as given in the key.<br />

The British Columbia locality given above is almost certainly<br />

erroneous. Adults have been taken on white pine (Pinus strobus),<br />

Virginia pine (P uirginiana), Jack pine (P banhsiana),lodgepole pine<br />

(P. contorta), and loblolly pine (P taeda). Nothing else is known <strong>of</strong> the<br />

biology or life history <strong>of</strong>this species.<br />
