Collection local ities <strong>of</strong> Apion. alashanum (o) , A amaunun (O) atd A. antennaturn<br />
Comments. This species belongs to the subgenus Eutrichapion<br />
and is distinguished from other members <strong>of</strong> the subgenus by its reddish<br />
yellow legs and by its northern distribution. This species and<br />
A. qntennatum occur farther north than any other species <strong>of</strong> Apion in<br />
<strong>Canada</strong>. The reddish legs distinguish adults <strong>of</strong> A. alaskq'numfromthose<br />
<strong>of</strong> A. clntenne.tu.m, which has black legs. Adults were found in July on<br />
Hedysarum alpinurn. Nothing more is known <strong>of</strong> its life history or habits.<br />

Description. Length 1.5-2.0 mm. Body moderately robust,<br />
black; elytra with slight coppery luster; antennae with pale bases.<br />
Pubescence consisting <strong>of</strong> white, moderately fine, moderately sparse<br />
scales, these coarser and denser on sides <strong>of</strong> mesothorax and<br />
metepisternum and beneath eye in male. Frons I.l-I.2 times wider than<br />
dorsal tip <strong>of</strong> rostrum. Rostrum <strong>of</strong> male slightly curved, 1.1 times longer<br />
than pronotum; sides, in dorsal view, slightly expanded at antennal<br />
insertion, nearly parallel in apical third; surface smooth beyond<br />
antennal insertion, with sparse, fine scales below antennal insertion;<br />
lateral areas with sparse, moderately course punctures, these finer and<br />
