Comments. This species is in the subgenus Trichapion.. Adults<br />
may be distinguished by characters given in the key. The larvae <strong>of</strong> this<br />
species are known to complete their development in the flower clusters<br />
<strong>of</strong> paper birch (Betula papyrifero) within approximately 1 month <strong>of</strong><br />
hatching and pupate within the clusters. Adults feed on the leaves <strong>of</strong><br />
birch. Kissinger (1959) designated the lectotypes <strong>of</strong> A. walshii and<br />
A. uicinum.<br />

Description. Length 1.8-2.3 mm. Body slender, very dark<br />
reddish black; legs and antenna slighter lighter. Pubescence consisting<br />
<strong>of</strong> white, very fine, moderately long, sparse scales. Frons 1.0 (female) to<br />
1.3 (male) times wider than dorsal tip <strong>of</strong> rostrum, with numerous,<br />
shallow, fine, longitudinal sulci. Rostrum <strong>of</strong> male moderately curved,I.2<br />
times longer than pronotum; sides, in dorsal view, slightly converging in<br />
apical third, rather strongly expanded at antennal insertion, distinctly<br />
