Absorption of EtBr with Amberlite ® XAD-16 (Lunn and Sansone) or with activated carbon (Bensaude, O. Method, Trends Genet. 4, 89-90 [1988]) from the solution. We recomment disposure by Sekuroka ® Decon-Bags (Art. No. T856.1/.2/.3) or Ethidium bromide extractors (Art. No. T857.1/2). Sekuroka ® DeconBags are a simple method for removal of ethidium bromide from solutions. The bags contain a special type of activated carbon which absorbs ethidium bromide effectively and safely. One bag can absorb 2.5 mg ethidium bromide. Efficiency is >99 %. One pack contains 50 bags. The application is extremely simple: Place the absorber bag in the ethidium bromide solution, incubate for 24 hours under stirring and dispose of the bag as hazardous waste in accordance with local regulations.
