Multiple use - ideal for most nucleic acid and protein immobilizing techniques. Pure nitro-cellulose, free from cellulose acetate and triton. They have a high binding capacity and low background. The fibre-reinforced version allows extensive handling of membrane, easier cutting, repeated hybridization and automated immobilizing. Applications: Southern, Northern, Western transfer, colony and plaque hybridization, immunoblots, nucleic acid and protein dot-blot, slot-blot, electrophoretic transfer of proteins. (Nitrocellulose should only conditionally be used for electrophoretic transfer of nucleic acids, because of the high salt concentrations required for the transfer). Membranes of 0.45 µm pore size allow for DNA transfer (minimum 300 bp) and protein transfer (minimum 20 kD).
