Timely sowing/transplanting.<br />

Grow location-specific resistant varieties such<br />

as Shaktiman, Vikram, Falguna, Mahamaya,<br />

Daya, Rajendradhan, Dhanyalakshmi, Pratap,<br />

Samalei, CR-57, Surekha, etc.<br />

Judicious use of nitrogen.<br />

Eight to ten days before transplanting, apply<br />

phorate 10G at 10 kg/ha or carbofuran 3G at<br />

25 kg/ha in nursery beds or seedling dip of<br />

nursery with 0.02% chlorpyriphos for 8-10<br />

hours. In the transplanted crop, spray the<br />

same insecticides as for stem borer at an<br />

estimated threshold level of 5% silver shoots.<br />

Brown planthopper and white-backed<br />

planthopper<br />

Timely planting.<br />

Judicious use of nitrogen fertiliser.<br />

Grow tolerant varieties such as Uday,<br />

Krishnaveni, Chaitanya, Vikram or Sarasa.<br />

Use light trap.<br />

When insects reach the estimated threshold<br />

level of 10/hill, spray the crop with<br />

monocrotophos 36EC at 0.75 1/ha, carbaryl<br />

50WP at 2.5 kg/ha, chlorpyriphos 25EC at 1.0<br />

1/ha or Asataf (acephate) 75 SP at 0.625 kg/<br />

ha.<br />

Burn stubble and straw.<br />

Balance use of fertilisers.<br />

Spray monocrotophos 36EC, chlorpyriphos<br />

25EC, quinolphos 25EC or endosulphan 35EC<br />

at 0.75-1.25 1/ha depending on crop growth at<br />

the estimated threshold level of one leaf/hill.<br />
