SECOND THEOLOGICAL DIALOGUE<br />

Delegates from the <strong>Coptic</strong> Orthodox <strong>Church</strong> and the Presbyterian <strong>Church</strong> assembled<br />

for at the Papal Residence in Cairo on Tuesday, 27 Feb 1989.<br />

The main topic for discussion was baptism.<br />

The following 5-point statement was issued:<br />

1. Baptism is a holy sacrament established by Christ essential for the work of the<br />

Holy Spirit to develop.<br />

2. Baptism is conducted in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit the one God.<br />

3. The <strong>Church</strong> baptises children on the faith of their parents to accept the<br />

responsibility of raising the children according to the Christian faith and fear of<br />

God.<br />

4. The church baptises persons other than infants provided they declare their<br />

Christian faith.<br />

5. Baptism must be performed by water and full immersion.<br />

THIRD THEOLOGICAL DIALOGUE<br />

On Feb 12, 1990 the third theological dialogue between the <strong>Coptic</strong> Orthodox church<br />

and Presbyterian church convened at the Papal residence in Cairo to canvass the<br />

issues pertaining to salvation and baptism and the future directions of the dialogue.<br />

BAPTISM:<br />

1. Sacrament.<br />

2. Performed in the name of the trinity.<br />

3. Child Baptism on faith of their children.<br />

4. Full emersion and not sprinkling is required.<br />

5. Elderly must make profession of faith.<br />
