Tehran, believing that they were acting for the good of Iran under orders from the Shah. In<br />
fact, the CIA had manipulated the entire situation. The night before the actual coup took place,<br />
CIA and British agents had been staging violent attacks with street gangs posing as Mossadeq<br />
supporters in order to set up groups such as the Tudeh Party and to implicate Mossadeq in the<br />
destruction and looting.
