<strong>Futuhusham</strong><br />

Quran until Rasulullah It. said, "Were punishment to fall from the sky to Earth, none<br />

would escape it except 'Umar bin al-Khattab."<br />

Do you not know that <strong>Al</strong>lah revealed clear verses about him? Is he not ascetic, pious<br />

and always engaged in worship? Does he not greatly resemble the prophet Nuh ~\?<br />

Should he <strong>of</strong>fer du'a on your behalf it would be answered.<br />

21) Seven day journey in three days<br />

Ibn Qurt ~ : I am well aware <strong>of</strong> all these virtues <strong>of</strong> 'Umar which you have<br />

mentioned, but in addition I would like your du'a and the du'a <strong>of</strong> al-tAbbas, the<br />

paternal uncle <strong>of</strong> Rasfilullah It., especially here at the noble tomb <strong>of</strong> Rasulullah It..<br />

AI-' Abbas ~ raised his hand in supplication. '<strong>Al</strong>l, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, 'Aishah (and<br />

Haf~ah and Umm Salamah • who had also arrived) joined him. He prayed, "0 <strong>Al</strong>lah,<br />

we seek intercession through this Chosen Prophet and selected Messenger through<br />

whom Adam also sought intercession and then You forgave his error. 0 <strong>Al</strong>lah, make<br />

the road easy for' Abdullah and fold up the long distances for him. Help the ~ahabah<br />

<strong>of</strong> Your Prophet with victory. You are the Hearer <strong>of</strong> Du'a."<br />

He then said, "Go, 'Abdullah, for it is unlikely that <strong>Al</strong>lah will reject the du'a <strong>of</strong><br />

'Umar, 'Abbas, '<strong>Al</strong>i, al-Hasan, al-Husayn and the wives <strong>of</strong> Rasulullah It., especially<br />

when they have interceded through the best <strong>of</strong> all creation."<br />

Ibn Qur]; narrates:<br />

I departed overjoyed, I sat on my camel's saddle and traversed the desert, still happy<br />

at the du'a <strong>of</strong> '<strong>Al</strong>i, al-tAbbas and 'Umar, I left al-Madinah after 'A~r <strong>of</strong> the same day<br />

that I had arrived.<br />

When darkness fell and night cast its veil, I slackened the camel nose-rope but felt as<br />

if it was flying <strong>of</strong>f with me. I travelled like that for three days. At the time <strong>of</strong> ~alatul<br />

'Asr <strong>of</strong> the third day I reached al-Yarmfik and could hear the athan, I went to AbU<br />

'Ubaydah's ~ tent, made my she-camel sit and made salam to him, having not seen<br />

seen him for the last ten days.<br />

Upon telling him about the du'a <strong>of</strong> 'Umar, '<strong>Al</strong>i, al-Abbas, al-Hasan and al-Husayn.a<br />

he said, " 0 Ibn QUI1, you have spoken the truth. <strong>Al</strong>lah holds them to be noble and<br />

does not reject their du'a. He then read the letter to the Muslims who were quite<br />
