AbU 'Ubaydah ss : I dreamt that I was standing opposite the Romans when men came<br />

and surrounded us. <strong>The</strong>y were dressed in white robes so beautiful that I had never<br />

seen the like there<strong>of</strong> before. <strong>The</strong>y were so white that they glittered with light which<br />

dazzled the eye. <strong>The</strong>y wore green turbans, carried yellow flags and rode grey horses.<br />

As they surrounded me they said, "Advance upon your enemies. Do not fear them for<br />

your victory is assured because <strong>Al</strong>lah is your Helper."<br />

<strong>The</strong>n they called some <strong>of</strong> you and gave them to drink from cups which they had with<br />

them. I then saw our army penetrating into the Roman army. When they saw us they<br />

fled.<br />

Muslim: May <strong>Al</strong>lah keep the commander in a good state. I also saw a dream last<br />

night.<br />

AbU 'Ubaydah es : It will also be good. What did you see? May <strong>Al</strong>lah have mercy on<br />

you.<br />

Muslim: We were coming out against the enemy and formed rows for battle.<br />

Suddenly white birds burst upon them from the sky. <strong>The</strong>y had green wings and claws<br />

like eagles. <strong>The</strong>y swooped like eagles upon them. Whoever they struck fell down<br />

dead.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Muslims rejoiced at this dream and said to each other, "Rejoice, <strong>Al</strong>lah has<br />

granted you safety and victory and has extended His help to you in the form <strong>of</strong> angels<br />

who will fight with you just as they did at the Battle <strong>of</strong> Badr,"<br />
