Part 3: <strong>Al</strong> - Yarmuk<br />

<strong>The</strong> Muslim women came and hit the horses <strong>of</strong> the Muslims in the face with tentpegs<br />

and stones and called out, "0 men <strong>of</strong> Islam, do you flee from your mothers,<br />

sisters, wives and daughters? Do you wish to give us to the Christians?"<br />

Minhal ad-Dawsi narrates:<br />

<strong>The</strong> women were sterner against us than the Romans were. <strong>The</strong> Muslims returned<br />

from their flight saying to each other,<br />

And they advise each other with Truth and they advise each<br />

other with patience. [103:3J<br />

<strong>The</strong>y turned back and fiercely fought the Romans. Qatamah bin al-Aysham al-Kinani<br />

was in the lead striking the Christians sometimes with a sword and sometimes with<br />

a spear until he broke three spears. <strong>Al</strong>l the while he was reciting:<br />

I will attack the dogs <strong>of</strong> Rome who are barking,<br />

With my metal s edge I will be striking.<br />

Toplease the giver <strong>of</strong> hope, <strong>Al</strong>ldh s Messenger,<br />

Prophet <strong>of</strong> Guidance for this Din the best advisor.<br />

He attacked until he broke two swords. Each time he broke a sword or spear he would<br />

call out, "Who will lend me a sword or spear in the Path <strong>of</strong> <strong>Al</strong>lah and his reward will<br />

be from <strong>Al</strong>lah?"<br />

He then called out, "0 tribe <strong>of</strong> Qays, grab your share <strong>of</strong> reward and patience. For<br />

patience in this world is honour, and leads to mercy and status in the next world."<br />
