Part 3: <strong>Al</strong> - Yarmuk<br />

That accomplished, Qays started searching for his nephew in the direction <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Roman camp. He heard a groan and upon approaching the source, found it to be his<br />

nephew, Suwayd bin Bahram al-Muradi, Upon recognising Qays he wept.<br />

Qays : What makes you weep, my nephew?<br />

Suwayd : 0 my uncle, I was chasing the Romans when one <strong>of</strong> them turned and<br />

speared me through my chest. Now I am experiencing through it something amazing.<br />

<strong>The</strong> virgin damsels <strong>of</strong> Jannah are standing opposite me awaiting my soul's departure.<br />

Qays (weeping) : Man has his set time. Perhaps there is yet time for you, my nephew.<br />

Suwayd: By <strong>Al</strong>lah! Hasten, uncle, if you are able to then take me to the Muslim camp<br />

so that I may die in the Muslim camp, not here.<br />

Qays : Certainly.<br />

Qays bin Hubayrah narrates:<br />

I carried Suwayd on my back to the Muslim camp and made for his tent.<br />

AbU 'Ubaydah ~ heard <strong>of</strong> Qays's arrival so he went to him and saw the boy dying.<br />

He went to sit at his head and wept and all the Muslims wept with him.<br />

Abu 'Ubaydah ~ : How is your condition, my nephew?<br />

Suwayd : By <strong>Al</strong>lah! In goodness and forgiveness. May <strong>Al</strong>lah reward Muhammad ~<br />

on our behalf well. He was true to us in what he said, "<strong>The</strong>se women <strong>of</strong> Jannah are<br />

calling and staring at me."<br />

He then died. We did not sleep until we had buried him.<br />

When Qays informed AbU 'Ubaydah ~ <strong>of</strong> the Romans who had been killed that night<br />

he was extremely pleased and took it as an omen <strong>of</strong> victory. <strong>The</strong> Muslims spent the<br />

night reciting the Quran, performing Salah and making du 'a for help and victory.<br />

41) <strong>The</strong> good character <strong>of</strong> the Romans<br />

When Bannes returned to his camp the patricians, priests and monks came to him and<br />

presented him with food. However, the patrician's dream troubled him so much that<br />

he could not eat a morsel. In fact, he was ready to abandon the whole struggle and<br />

pay Jizyah but realised that matters were not in his hands. <strong>The</strong> princes, priests,<br />
