ELGIN BAYLOR NBA 50 GREATEST PLAYERS
SIGNED LITHOGRAPH
A lithograph issued in 1997 and signed by 49 of
the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players, presented to Elgin
Baylor for his being named to the historic group. In
conjunction with the NBA’s 50th Anniversary in
1996, the NBA named its 50 Greatest Players, 49
of whom were honored while present at the 1997
NBA All-Star game in Cleveland, Ohio; Pete Maravich
was the only player not present due to his
death in 1988. To mark the occasion, the NBA produced
the 50 Greatest Players lithograph featuring
the images of the 50 players named to the group.
To further mark the occasion, the NBA requested
that the players sign 250 of the lithographs, which
were individually numbered upon completion of the
signing; the first 50 signed lithographs were dedicated
and presented to the players in the group with
this lithograph being dedicated and numbered “Baylor
1/1.” The remaining lithographs were presented
to NBA owners and executives, with a very small
number sold to the public. The lithograph is signed
by NBA legends Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (signed
“Abdul-Jabbar”), Nate Archibald, Paul Arazin,
Charles Barkley, Rick Barry, Elgin Baylor, Dave
Bing, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob Cousy,
Dave Cowens, Billy Cunningham, Dave DeBusschere,
Clyde Drexler, Julius Erving, Patrick Ewing
(inscribed “33”), Walt Frazier, George Gervin (inscribed
“Ice #44”), Hal Greer, John Havlicek, Elvin
Hayes, Magic Johnson, Sam Jones, Michael Jordan,
Jerry Lucas, Karl Malone (inscribed “32”), Moses
Malone, Kevin McHale, George Mikan, Earl Monroe,
Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal (inscribed
“34”), Robert Parish, Bob Pettit, Scottie
Pippen, Willis Reed, Oscar Robertson, David Robinson
(inscribed “Prov 3:5”), Bill Russell, Dolph
Schayes, Bill Sharman, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas,
Nate Thurmond, Wes Unseld, Bill Walton, Jerry
West, Lenny Wilkens and James Worthy. The lithographs
is also signed by NBA Commissioner David
Stern. The lithograph is accompanied by a Certificate
of Authenticity housed in a leather bound folder
and a VHS videotape documenting the signing of
the NBA 50 Greatest Players lithograph. The lithograph
is also accompanied by a color image of all
of the 50 Greatest Players present at the 1997 NBA
All-Star weekend. The image is signed “Elgin Baylor”
in black marker. The lithograph is framed.
