96 ELGIN BAYLOR 1972 RINKYDINKS TROPHY AND PROCLAMATION A trophy presented to Elgin Baylor by The Rinkeydinks, Inc. on June 11, 1972. The award features a life-size yellow metal basketball on a yellow metal stem that sits on a wood base. A yellow metal removable plaque is affixed to the center of the base and reads “Elgin Baylor/ As great an athlete/ as you are – you are an/ even greater human being!/ Love/ ‘The Rinkeydinks, Inc.’/ -June 11, 1972-.” The trophy is accompanied by a proclamation letter given by the City of Los Angeles stating that Elgin Baylor will be honored at a testimonial dinner sponsored by “The Rinkey Dinks” on June 11, 1972. The letter goes on to highlight Baylor’s many achievements in basketball and is signed by three Council members of the City of Los Angeles and the City Clerk. The Cronton watch features a yellow gold plated bezel backed by stainless steel, with bronze luminescent dial, yellow metal baton chapters, a day/date window, and an automatic movement. The watch does not have a strap. The back of the watch is engraved “Elgin/ Baylor/ Sonics/ All-American/ 3-12-72.” $500-600 99 ELGIN BAYLOR 1972 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SPORTS BROADCASTERS GOLF TROPHY A Scholarship Golf Invitational trophy presented to Elgin Baylor in 1972 for participating in the 8th Annual Southern California Sports Broadcasters golf tournament. The wood trophy features a printed plaque that reads “Southern California Sports Broadcasters/ 8th Annual, Scholarship Golf Invitational/ Elgin Baylor/ June 12, 1972/ Los Alamitos Golf Club.” 9 by 7 inches $100-200 100 ELGIN BAYLOR 1972 HOSPITAL CHARITY FUND RED ROSE AWARD A Red Rose Award presented to Elgin Baylor in 1972 by the Hospital Charity Fund’s Board of Directors. The wood award features engraved plaques that read “Red Rose Award/ The Hospital Charity Fund/ Salutes/ Captain Elgin Baylor/ For his 13 seasons of winning NBA performance/ despite physical adversity. He is basketball’s/ all-time best forward. 101 ELGIN BAYLOR NBA SILVER ANNIVERSARY CITATION AWARD An NBA Silver Anniversary Citation award presented to Elgin Baylor by the NBA Office of the Commissioner. The wood plaque features a laminated letter of both respect and admiration that basketball people everywhere have for Baylor. In the lower left corner is a reprinted box score of the very first NBA game in which Baylor played on October 22, 1958. The top of the letter reads “Silver Anniversary/ Citation/ Presented to/ Elgin Baylor.” A 25th anniversary NBA logo is centered at the top of the page with a grey and red striped border surrounding. The bottom of the letter reads “National/ Basketball Association/ 1946-1971.” Walt Kennedy, Commissioner of the NBA at the time, signed the letter in blue ink. 23 by 16 inches $800-1,200 Julien’s Auctions | 57
