A Paul Bunyan-Blue Ox Citation presented to Elgin Baylor and<br />

Seattle University on February 20, 1959, by the Seattle Chamber<br />

of Commerce. The parchment citation features a gold colored<br />

seal and an image of Paul Bunyan and Blue Ox. It reads<br />

“Seattle Chamber of Commerce/ Award of Merit/ Elgin Baylor<br />

and Seattle University/ has been awarded/ A Paul Bunyan-Blue<br />

Ox Citation/ for a constructive contribution toward/ focusing<br />

favorable national attention upon/ the city of Seattle during the<br />

A Hall of Fame plaque presented to Elgin Baylor by Washington<br />

State in 1962. The yellow metal plaque is mounted on a<br />

wood frame and reads “Washington/ State/ Sports/ Hall of<br />

Fame/ 1962/ Elgin Baylor.” An embossed male figure is holding<br />

a round emblem that reads “Tacoma Athletic Commission/<br />

Inc” and centers the letter A. Accompanied by a black and<br />

white photograph, owned by Baylor, showing Baylor driving to<br />

the basket against his Seattle University Chieftain teammates.<br />

AWARD<br />

An award presented to Elgin Baylor by The Pigskin Club of<br />

Washington, D.C., on June 27, 1959. The award is a laminated<br />

wood plaque that features a page of handwritten script<br />

describing Baylor’s many athletic accomplishments in high<br />

school and college and his early accomplishments in the NBA.<br />

Presented to “Elgin Baylor, Native Son of Washington,” the<br />

plaque also reads that Baylor is an “Outstanding Athlete” and<br />

an “Inspiration to American Youth.” The plaque is signed by<br />

both the secretary and the president of the club in blue ink.<br />

A commemorative plaque presented to Elgin Baylor in 1971 by<br />

the Seattle University Alumni Association at a banquet honoring<br />

Dr. Robert Kerlan. The plaque is made of wood and has a<br />

metal plate that includes remarks made by Dr. Kerlan such as<br />

“Elgin comes close to being the perfect human physically,/ mentally,<br />

morally. He’s got a great sense of humor/ and wit. And<br />

he’s a very deep person.” The plaque is accompanied by a<br />

Robert Kerlan memorial card.<br />
