THE YEAR CITATION<br />

A citation presented to Elgin Baylor<br />

in 1958 by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer<br />

newspaper notifying him that<br />

he will be awarded their Man of the<br />

Year in Sports award. The citation is<br />

pen and ink on paper and reads<br />

“Elgin Baylor/ is hereby notified that<br />

he has been chosen the/ Man of the<br />

Year in Sports/ 1958/ Seattle’s great All-American will be officially awarded<br />

his trophy by the P-I at next winter’s Man of the Year banquet/ Congratulations/<br />

to one of basketball’s finest all-around players.” The citation is accompanied<br />

by a January 2, 1959, telegram from Seattle University expressing<br />

congratulations on the award.<br />

A plaque presented to Elgin Baylor at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper’s P-I Man of the Year award banquet. Baylor was nominated in 1957 and<br />

won the award in 1958 for leading Seattle University to the NCAA Championship game. The rose color plaque is mounted on a crest-shaped wood frame<br />

featuring a black and white picture of Baylor with text below that reads “Presented to Elgin Baylor, All American,/ at the 1958 P-I Man of the Year award<br />

banquet/ as a tribute to his contribution to the sport.” Accompanied by a black and white wire photograph, owned by Baylor, of Baylor posing on the basketball<br />

court with his Seattle Chieftains teammates.<br />
