Savings & Loan Association. The crest-shaped wood frame has a yellow<br />

metal plaque mounted to the center and reads “Lincoln Savings & Loan<br />

Association/ Sports Citizen/ Of the Week/ Elgin Baylor/ Presented on/<br />

KLAC/ 3-22-68. A round gold metal cameo of two male basketball<br />

players shooting a basketball is centered on the top of the plaque.<br />

A letter presented to Elgin Baylor on July 19, 1968, by Kenneth A. Schmied,<br />

mayor of Louisville, Kentucky. The letter was given, along with the Key to the<br />

City, for Baylor’s commitment. The letter reads “Elgin Baylor/ who, through<br />

distinguished deeds has exhibited the/ qualifications necessary, the commission<br />

of a Louisville/ Ambassador of Good Will/ and the responsibility of furthering<br />

the fame of/ Louisville’s business progress, civic accomplishment,<br />

cultural and intellectual achievement, and gracious/ living, wherever he may<br />

be.” The letter is signed in blue ink by Kenneth A. Schmied complete with an<br />

embossed yellow gold sticker with two blue ribbons that reads “City of<br />

Louisville/ 1778” with three fleur-de-lis embossed in the center.<br />
