FUNCTIONARIES, THOUSANDS PRESENT THERE<br />

KARACHI, Sept 21, 1996:- Mir <strong>Murtaza</strong> <strong>Bhutto</strong>, son of former prime minister<br />

Shaheed Zulfikar Ali <strong>Bhutto</strong> and brother of Prime Minister Benazir <strong>Bhutto</strong><br />

was laid to rest at his Garhi Khuda Baksh ancestral graveyard in Larkana<br />

Saturday evening. 42-year-old <strong>Murtaza</strong> <strong>Bhutto</strong> died at Mideast Hospital in<br />

Karachi Friday night after receiving bullet wounds in neck and abdomen<br />

during a clash between his guards and police.<br />

The burial took place amid emotional scenes as numerous federal and<br />

provincial ministers, advisors, senators, members of National and Provincial<br />

Assemblies and thousands of admirers of <strong>Bhutto</strong> family, many of them<br />

wailing or sobbing, converged at the grave site. Earlier <strong>Murtaza</strong>'s body was<br />

flown from Karachi onboard a helicopter of Edhi Ambulance Service. His<br />

funeral procession began from his native Al-<strong>Murtaza</strong> residence and reached<br />

Garhi Khuda Bakhsh in about an hour. His widow Ghanwa, Amir Bux <strong>Bhutto</strong><br />

son of his uncle Mumtaz Ali <strong>Bhutto</strong>, his brother-in-law Nasir Hussain,<br />

accompanied the funeral. Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayer) was offered over<br />

the ground adjacent to the mausoleum of his father Shaheed Zulfikar Ali<br />

<strong>Bhutto</strong>, led by the Imam of local Jamia Mosque. A large number of people<br />

laid floral wreaths at <strong>Murtaza</strong>'s grave following the burial. Several hundred<br />

women from adjoining and outlying towns as well as from Balochistan and<br />

Punjab provinces were also present.<br />

Earlier Prime Minister Benazir <strong>Bhutto</strong> arrived in Larkana Saturday afternoon<br />

for the burial of her brother Mir <strong>Murtaza</strong> <strong>Bhutto</strong>. Her spouse and Minister for<br />

Investment Asif Ali Zardari accompanied her. Also accompanying her were<br />

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Abdullah Shah, Defence Minister Aftab Shaaban<br />

Mirani, President PPP Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Provincial Minister Agha<br />

Tariq and some relatives.<br />

Grief stricken and somber looking Prime Minister, wearing a black scarf, later<br />

drove to Naudero. Earlier, body of Mir <strong>Murtaza</strong> <strong>Bhutto</strong> also arrived at<br />

Larkana Stadium onboard a helicopter of Edhi Ambulance Service for burial<br />

at ancestral graveyard Garhi Khuda Bakhsh <strong>Bhutto</strong>. Another helicopter<br />

brought his mother Begum Nusrat <strong>Bhutto</strong> who had arrived here from abroad<br />

in the morning, and his widow Ghunva.<br />
