12.0 Release Notes - Introduction Various changes have been made to the HyperWorks 12.0 software package including the HyperWorks products, hardware support, installation, invoking, and online help. Changes to the Altair Licensing System are detailed in the Altair Licensing Release Notes. HyperWorks 12.0 installer provides the same installer experience across Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows platforms. Installation and Packaging • The HyperWorks software package is split into several independent product packages. It gives user options to download desired packages for installation as needed. • An SA update can either be installed on an existing 12.0 installation, or can be installed independently without the pre-requisite of a 12.0 base. Multiple product SA updates can now be installed concurrently with or without the 12.0 base.
• AcuSolve is now utilizing the same HyperWorks installation tools and becomes part of the HyperWorks 12.0 package. It is no longer necessary to execute acuSetHW to link the packages after installation. • The AcuSolve installer now supports installation into directory structures with spaces. • HyperWorks Help has new book structure and search capability. • The Demo directory is moved from Help package to the software package. Server/Client Installation AcuSolve now supports served application model. Caching is now available on the client installations that will improve the product invoke time on client machines. Installation/Uninstallation • The installation time is greatly reduced. • The space required for temporary files during installation is decreased. • The temporary files clean up process is improved. • The tracking of uninstallation of multiple installations on the same machine is improved. • Make changes to solver products installation structure. • Changes were made to the AcuSolve product installation structure to make it more consistent with the rest of the HyperWorks tools. Note that AcuSolve still installs into its own directory within the HyperWorks folder and may be installed with or without a HyperWorks base installation present. • The WinSxS (Windows side by side) DLL dependency on HyperWorks Desktop applications is no longer needed. • Focus of desktop windowing during installation and uninstallation on Mac OS X is improved. Invoking • Invoking via icon on Mac OS X is now available. • The icons on Windows and Mac OS X are updated. • The process for invoking AcuSolve products on Linux has changed. Users may execute the “acusim” script that is located in the altair/scripts directory of the HyperWorks installation to launch a shell with the AcuSolve environment configured. By executing “acusim –h”, users can see a list of commonly used AcuSolve invoke commands as well as instructions on how to automatically configure their environment for running AcuSolve at login. Back to top 12.0 Release Notes - Known Limitations Uninstallation When uninstalling a HyperWorks application, all files installed or modified previously will be removed. Backup of any customer files are recommended. Sometimes, a false warning message at the end of the uninstaller stating that a log file was not able to be removed during the uninstall process may appear. The file/folder will be actually removed a few moments after pressing the “Done” button.
