OptiStruct 12.0 Release
The 12.0 release of OptiStruct is yet another functionality-rich release. This release features an
alternative algorithm for topology optimization among other major developments, and significant
enhancements were made in the handling and treatment of composites at the free sizing optimization
phase. Additionally, the coverage of internal responses was further increased to include multiple new
DRESP1 response types. Some key highlights of the 12.0 release are listed below.
Topology Optimization
• An alternative algorithm based on the Level Set Method is available for topology
optimization (Beta functionality)
Composites Free Size Optimization
• Ply drop off constraints have been added for optimization of laminate composites
• Manufacturing constraints for laminate composites can now be defined locally, and BYPLY
and BYSET in addition to orientation. This is available for free sizing and sizing optimization
• OUTPUT,FSTOSZ (option to automatically generate a sizing model after free sizing of a
composite structure) has been rewritten using a new pure ply based approach
Free Shape Optimization
• Automatic re-meshing is available for free shape optimization (Beta functionality)
• The smoothing algorithms have been significantly improved
Internal Responses (DRESP1)
• Equivalent radiated power (ERP) is available for NVH requirements
• Equivalent plastic strain is supported in nonlinear response optimization
