Extended evaluation for six months (status .04) or 18 months (status
06) was used for e.ight clients duri.ng the period studied (.Table X). Of
the eight, six were eventually accepted for services, one was not el.igi-
ble and one was still in evaluation at the end of the 1968-69 fiscal year.

Of the 1338 people referred for VR services, 974 were closed prior
to July i, 1969. Of the total number closed, 818 (84%) were closed as
rehabilitated, i.e., each had achieved a satisfactory vocational placement
commensurate with his individual abilities. A study of the people rehabi-
litated during the three years studied (Table XIII) shows that 73% (595)
were identified as mildly retarded; 24% (198) were moderately retarded;
three per cent (25) were severely .retarded, as defined in DVR Case Process
Guide (see page 68). These figures showed little variation from one year
to the next.
The total case service costs for the 818 people closed as rehabili-
tated amounted to $1,083,747; the average cost per rehabilitated closure
was $1,325 (Table XIII). A district comparison (Tables XI and XII) shows
considerable variation in average costs per closure, ranging from a low
of $423 in the Green Bay district for 1966-67 to a high of $3,021 in the
Milwaukee district for 1968-69. Wood County shows an average high of
$3,591 per closure in 1968-69 and a low of $67 in 1966-67. However, during
the three years studied they had a total of three rehabilitated closures;
therefore, these figures are not used when making comparisons among dis-
tricts.
