"That is true," exclaimed Suke and Kamori<br />

together, with increasing surprise.<br />

" And when Kamori saw that big fish," pro-<br />

ceeded Kogi, " he agreed to buy it at once ; and,<br />

besides paying the price <strong>of</strong> the fish, he also gave<br />

Bunshi some peaches, in a dish, and three cups <strong>of</strong><br />

wine. Then the cook was called ; and he came<br />

and looked at the fish, and admired it ; and then,<br />

by your order, he sliced it and prepared it for<br />

your feast. . . . Did not all this happen just as I<br />

have said ?<br />

" Yes," responded Suke ; " but we are very<br />

much astonished that you should know what<br />

happened in our house to-day.. Please tell us<br />

how you learned these matters."<br />

" Well, now for my story," said the priest.<br />

" You are aware that almost everybody believed<br />

me to be dead ; — you yourselves attended my<br />

funeral service. But I did not think, three days<br />

ago, that I was at all dangerously ill : I remem-<br />

ber only that I felt weak and very hot, and that<br />

I wanted to go out into the air to cool myself.<br />

And I thought that I got up from my bed, with a<br />

great effort, and went out, — supporting myself<br />

with a stick. . . . Perhaps this may have been<br />

imagination; but you will presently be able to
