- IFC/PEP Southeast Europe is part of IFC (International Finance Corporation),<br />
World Bank Group. The programme operates in <strong>Albania</strong>, Bosnia and Hercegovina,<br />
the FYR Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro and was formally launched in July 2005<br />
and has been established for an initial period of five years.<br />
The Private Enterprise Partnership for Southeast Europe (PEP-SE) is catalyzing<br />
private sector development from a platform of four operational programs:<br />
• Alternative Dispute Resolution;<br />
• Corporate Governance;<br />
• International Technical Standards and Regulations; and<br />
• Recycling Linkages.<br />
PEP-SE's private sector development programmes are co-financed by following<br />
countries: Austria, Canada, IFC, <strong>Net</strong>herlands, Norway, Slovenia, and Switzerland.<br />

- World Bank’s Southeast Europe Enterprise Development (SEED), a multi-donor<br />
initiative managed by the World Bank Group's supported SME development and<br />
strived to improve the overall environment for SME growth and competitiveness in<br />
the region. The SEED project is already closed now and a new project of World Bank<br />
is being implemented (IFC/PEP SE).<br />
SEED's activities included:<br />
• Raising investment capital for SMEs;<br />
• Building capacity of SMEs and of the local institutions and individuals that<br />
support them such as business associations, consultants, and financial<br />
institutions; and<br />
• Improving the business enabling environment.<br />
SEED had been doing similar work in Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYR of Macedonia,<br />
and the province of Kosovo since its creation in September 2000. SEED's activities<br />
were compliment the reconstruction and development activities of the World Bank<br />
Group and other multilateral and bilateral donors in <strong>Albania</strong>.<br />
1.4 Financing<br />
There is a large-scale of important donors operating in <strong>Albania</strong> and the financial<br />
supports comes especially from the EBRD, EIB, EU, UNDP, USAID, and the World<br />
Bank (SEED and Training Enterprise and Employment Fund). Other financial support<br />
for innovation infrastructures and enterprise development is coming, for example,<br />
from German Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), Italian<br />
Government, and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC),<br />
International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Open Society Foundation (OSF), which<br />
also seeks to enhance the level of entrepreneurship and access to technology, for<br />
example through funding provided to the Regional Development Agency <strong>Net</strong>work<br />
and other institutions.<br />
