• Provision of information and consultancy support to investors to overcome any<br />

barriers which they may face in making investments, establishing a business<br />

or making contacts;<br />

• Participation in activities to promote the export of Kosovo products to external<br />

markets, identification of export opportunities, support to enterprises and<br />

associations of business which export, and provision of information on<br />

regulatory matters both within and outside Kosovo;<br />

• Proposals for fiscal policy measures to reduce the tax burden on foreign<br />

investment in key sectors; and<br />

• Engagement in other activities in the fields of investment and export promotion<br />

to improve the wellbeing of the population and to increase employment<br />

opportunities.<br />

According to Business Registry data for March 2006, there are more than 1500<br />

companies in foreign and mixed ownership in UNMIK/Kosovo. These investments<br />

originate from FYROM, Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey, <strong>Albania</strong>, China, India,<br />

Pakistan, Bangladesh, Germany, UK, Slovenia and Italy. More than 90% of foreign<br />

investment goes to enterprises with less than 10 employees.<br />

The Government and UNMIK are working to improve the investment climate even<br />

more. Kosovo is now enjoying sustained economic growth. The vast potentials in<br />

mining, energy, agriculture and food processing sectors present opportunities for very<br />

attractive private investments.<br />
