scenery, rather than entirely bypassing the town to the<br />

northwest (as members of Dingley Falls's Historical<br />

Society hoped they would continue to do). And after<br />

the confetti of red tape had settled over the State<br />

House, an engineering report appeared. It proposed a<br />

route through the southeast corner of Ernest Ransom's<br />

land, which, since the site in question did not directly<br />

overlap the land he had leased earlier to the federal<br />
