who had ground telescope lenses for the Dingleys from
1862 to 1898, when, to the surprise of his defeated
opponent, he had left town to sit with the United States
Congress for two-and-a-half terms before his death.
Everything southeast of the Rampage had been Lucius
Madder's territory because he had fought for it, fought
hooligans for the streets, Dingleys for a union, the state
for a school, the church for an orphanage, the party for
