Emerald combined the nod of a yes with a quick<br />

series of gentle puffs on her nails.<br />

Emerald raised her handsome eyebrows to denote<br />

her ignorance of Mrs. Abernathy's whereabouts. She<br />

added for emphasis a shrug of those fashionably thin<br />
