If the recaciculated.lengthS of parr are, e.g., 5, 11 and 17 Cm, and if
the results agree with the amounts of growth that have been ascertained
otherwise, then this result indicates
a correct . age determination.
Unfortunately,.things are not
quite as simple, since hardly any meas-
urements of lengths in the natural
stock of parr have been carried out.
•All figures for the mean lengths of'
parr that are available have been ob-
tained through recalculation (W. J.
Menzies 1925, G. Alm 1928a, F. Chrzan
1959b). Furthermore, we have here as-
sumed a simple proportionality, so that
changes in the body proportions have
not been taken into account. However,
even these statements .can help us in
making a step ahead. When the analyses
give the same result or a similar one
as the investigations of other authors,
then the possibility of an erroneous
'determination is slight, even when the
recalculation does not result in the
actual length.
In every case recalculations
carried out for the presentage deter-
minations. In addition the entire material has been - determined twice.
