About <strong>FDCL</strong><br />
is a nonpr<strong>of</strong>itorganization,<br />
which was founded in 1974. With<br />
its activities <strong>FDCL</strong> wants to promote<br />
<strong>the</strong> exchange <strong>of</strong> knowledge <strong>and</strong> information<br />
on issues related to Latin<br />
America within politics, humanities,<br />
culture <strong>and</strong> education <strong>and</strong> in this way<br />
contribute to a mutual underst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> people across borders. It sees<br />
itself as part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> German solidarity<br />
movement <strong>and</strong> serves as an information<br />
<strong>and</strong> communication center for<br />
individuals <strong>and</strong> groups who want to<br />
ga<strong>the</strong>r information on Latin America<br />
or become active <strong>and</strong> work on a<br />
specific topic. Many different solidar-<br />
ity groups, country committees, groups <strong>of</strong> migrants, media projects<br />
related to Latin America (like <strong>the</strong> Latin American News (Lateinamerika<br />
Nachrichten)) <strong>and</strong> initiatives dealing with development aid work “under<br />
<strong>the</strong> ro<strong>of</strong>” <strong>of</strong> <strong>FDCL</strong>.<br />
<strong>FDCL</strong> sees its solidarity <strong>and</strong> information work regarding Latin<br />
America as inseparable from <strong>the</strong> entitlement to help shape politics here<br />
“at home.” As a part <strong>of</strong> this, <strong>the</strong> issue <strong>of</strong> human rights is a special focus<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>FDCL</strong>’s work. With respect to development issues, apart from <strong>the</strong><br />
respective lobbying, <strong>FDCL</strong> concentrates on domestic education <strong>and</strong>
