There are several people to whom I am grateful for the help received during my PhD. First of
all I would like to thank my tutors prof. Rosangela Marchelli and prof. Stefano Sforza. They
gave me the possibility to work in stimulant environment and helped me when stacked with
my work. Their collaboration allowed me to improve my scientific knowledge.
I would like to thank my co-workers Alessandro Accetta, Dr. Tullia Tedeschi, Dr. Andrea
Faccini, Dr. Roberto Pela, Dr. Filbert Totsingan and Alex Manicardi, their daily help in the
laboratory has been precious, and their company during work time and after has been always
pleasant. I would like to thank also prof. Roberto Corradini, he was always ready to give
suggestions when asked, and his supervision in some of the works reported in this thesis was
very useful. I am grateful to all the bachelor and master students that in these years helped
me, Marika Bigi, Annalisa Balducchi and Manuela Bersellini.
There are many people who collaborated with me for the realization of some of the works
reported in this thesis, many of the experiments here reported would have not been possible
without their help. I would like to thank prof. Roberto Tonelli and Dr. Consuelo Camerin
from the Laboratory of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology "Lalla Seràgnoli" at
“Sant’Orsola” hospital, Bologna, Italy. I am indebted to Prof. Jurriaan Huskens and Dr. Pascal
Jonkheijm from the Molecular Nanofabrication group of the University of Twente, The
Netherlands, for the period I spent in their group. They taught me all I know about surface
chemistry, and hosted me in their laboratories for a long period giving me the possibility to
acquire experience in a new field. I would like to thank also Shu-Han Hsu and Alberto Gomez
Casado for their daily help in the laboratory. I am grateful also to all my co-workers from
MNF and SMCT, for being always ready to give me suggestions and making my period in
Enschede more amusing with their company.
