Six clearly different hybridization patterns were obtained, thus demonstrating that arginine-<br />

based PNAs are very efficient<br />

in discriminating single point mismatches also when deposited<br />

potential way to rapidly assesss the genetic<br />

4.3 Conclusions<br />

In this work we have demonstrated thatt the arginine-based PNAs synthesized carrying one<br />

chiral monomer with two stereogenic centers of suitable configuration in<br />

the middle of the<br />

strand, are very efficient in discriminating single point mutations both in<br />

solutions and on a<br />

solid surface. Microarrays built by using four arginine-PNAs were shown to be able to<br />

discriminate the presence or the absence of their complementary oligonucleotides<br />

also in<br />
