In general <strong>on</strong>e may say that in Ca, with excepti<strong>on</strong> of the präsaTigika~<br />

sïitras I-IV, the nouns and indeclinables used as first member of decli~<br />

nable compounds, and in the prásatigika~sütras of Ca and · in Cb the temporal<br />

and modal particles c<strong>on</strong>strued with a finite verb are 'grammatica!' upapadas.<br />

whereas the upapadas in Cc are partly prefixes or preceding nominal mem~<br />

bers of compositi<strong>on</strong> to krts and as such 'grammatica!' upapadas, and partly<br />

fini te verbs or nouns fulfilling more or less the functi<strong>on</strong> of finite verbs, c<strong>on</strong>~<br />

strued with indeclinable krts and as such 'logica!' upapadas. cf. § 34 in fine.<br />
