104 A RAPID RHYME OF A MERRY TIME.
The famed umbrella* laid aside
The cruel carter's dread
In bonnet, sporran, kUt, and plaid,
The costume of his clan.
Our noble Crighton takes his place.
The leader of our van.
0, never from our country
Our own beloved north
A braver heart, a truer heart,
A warmer heart came forth.
And near him, ia the vast array.
In medalled pomp we see
Great Dinnie, Fleming, and McNeil,
And nimble-toed McPhee
Athletes whom our Britannia,
Whom all the world, doth know.
They come to-day for doughty deeds,
And not for empty show.
Nor must the Muse omit to mark,
Amidst the fi-ont array,
Dunlop advance, with sword in hand,
As best befits the day—
Dunlop, t who at our Club's appeal.
Hath left our native land,
And brought with him, to grace our sports,
His gay and gallant band.
But hark ! the pipers all strilie up,
Before us roll the drums,
I hear a thousand voices shout
"The Scotch procession comes!"
