RANDOM THOUGHTS ON WOMAn's EiaHTS. 277
And still admire the gems withia,
However odd the case.
We grant their right to spend the cash
Their husbands toil to win,
Tho' they, like lilies of the field,
Should neither toU nor spin.
Ah, yes !
we recognise the rights
The darlings now possess,
And him who would ignore their claims,
Or wish to make them less.
Who'd laugh their little whims to scorn,
Their pleasures dare dispute.
We call a "Monster"—not a "Man—"
That shames the name of "Brute."
We yield the ladies all their rights,
And not a few of ours.
But still their constant cry is "Give !
Extend our rights and powers !
They cry for this, they sigh for that.
They challenge rights so many.
That when they have asserted all,
Male mortals won't have any.
"
Well, bless their dear, ambitious hearts.
Why should we say them "Nay?"
They'll leave us with a care the less
For each they take away.
We'll let them vote and speechify.
And make the nation's laws,
Command the Senate's listening ear,
The fickle crowd's applause.
