60 METEICAl, TALES.
THE YOUNG FEENCHMAN'S SONG.
OME over to France, to beautiful France
The flower-land, the wine-land, the home of romance
($/
Come, fish in the rivers and sail on the lakes,
Or carelessly ramble through forests and brakes.
Come, saunter on footpaths o'ershaded by trees,
Or sit in the arbours in coolness and ease
Come, drmk the dark wine as it laughs in the glass.
And dance with the maids in the merry ducasse.*
Nor judge ye them harshly, as wanting in worth,
Though they're swifter to love than the maids of the north.
Though they're swifter to sigh, and swifter to smile,
Their hearts are as warm and as wanting in guile
Nor yet have their cheeks—have their lips less of charm,
Though Sol may have kissed them with lasses so warm.
Their glances are bright as their own summer's rays ;
What maiden can love like a charming Franrahe?
Would you live in a land of delight and romance.
Come over to France, to beautiful France.
END OF " TALES OF THE STORM BOUND."
* Ducasse, n church festival in the north of France.
