The pains of liell have seized on me,
The fiends surround my bed,
My boiling blood is struggling out
To join the streams I've shed.

And scorch me where I lie !
The horrid vision fades away,
The cries of anguish cease,
I leap o'er space and time, and tread
The shores of classic Greece.
Through queenly Athens, far and wide,
I wander at my will,
'Midst mn-acles of sculptured art
And architectural skill
;
And all through Academus I,
Through the Lyceum, walk.
And by Ilyssus' famous stream
Where sages roam and talk.
But where is
Sophroniscus' son,
Athena's sagest sage ?
Why doth he not in wise discourse
Ingenious youth engage ?
