On W. E. EwAN, of Aberdeen, a young man of great promise, who died<br />

of consumption while pursuing his studies in Divmity<br />

at the Free Church College.<br />

'^ For ere his worth was well perceived<br />

His bright career was ended<br />

We know not why, nor need surmise.<br />

Lhanbryd, near Elgin.<br />

OULD kindly heart escape the grave,<br />

Had eloquence the power to save,<br />

If worth the darts of death could stay,<br />

I should not mourn my friend to-day.
