THE OLD BACHELOR S SONG. 27
And even old companions jeered
And quizzed him in the street.
The lawyers plundered his estate,
The world became his foe,
An Almhouse was his dreary fate.
And death his term of woe.
Ye bachelors, a numerous flock,
Ye spinsters more than they.
Give ear to Cupid's am'rous knock
Ere ye turn old and grey.
Be taught by honest Joseph's fault.
Be warned by Joseph's sin,
Before your love turn like a bolt
Which time hath rusted in.
THE OLD BACHELOE'S SONG.
fHEBE
grew a sweet flower.
In my garden bower
SS^ Young Love was the floweret's name
So dear to me, so fair to see,
That the roses red
Might have hung their head
With a redder blush for shame.
And the lilies turned white
Out of envy and spite.
If placed by the side of the tiny flower
Which budded and bloomed in my garden bower.
Young Beauty's smile was the sun that cheered.
Young Hope was the morning dew
