Family MORDELLIDAE tumbling flower beetles
J. McNamara
Severrty species and subspecies of mordellids
have beer recorded in Canada. The adults are small,
humpbacked beetles, and their most distinctive feature
is their long, pointed abdomen. They are commonly
found on umbelliferous flowers, on which they
feed. Larvae are carnivorous or feed on plant material.
Sorne are found boring in rotten wood, others
are leaf and stem miners, but very few are known.
Liljetrlad (1945) revised the North American
species oI'Mordellidae; Ermisch (1951) treated the
genera of the world; and Bright (1986) pr:Lblished a
catalog of the Nearctic species. Neverlheless, a
modern revision would be useful. Members of
Anaspini, which used to be included within
Mordellidae, are now in the family Scraptirdae.
