Anthicidae comprises 55 species in Canada and
Alaska. The adults are usually found under debris
and in leaf litter on the ground or on flowers and
foliage; the larvae live in the soil and in decayed
vegetation. Apparently, members of many species
are scavengers; those of some species are known to
be egg predators.
The North American species of this family are
usually grouped into two subfamilies, Notoxinae
and Anthicinae. Thanks to the work of Werner and
of Chandler, the taxonomy of most of the groups
that occur in North America has been worked out.
